In Honor of Dr. Enrique Lopez-Cuenca
Dr. Enrique Lopez-Cuenca was a Tampa cardiovascular surgeon who was very committed to his family and his patients. He gave everything that he had to their care. He had a special interest in high tech surgery and new developments in the field.
His special interests had been humanitarian cardiac surgery and innovative surgical procedures such as Robotic Surgery, Cryoablation, Mitral Valve Repair Procedures and Off Pump Procedures.
He himself had operated on hundreds of children and thousands of adults. He had traveled many times to help surgical teams in Puerto Rico and Mexico, by operating in Guadalajara and taking care of Indian children in the jungle of Cancun. Unfortunately in the prime of his life, he contracted ALS and died with grace and dignity at the age of 59.
It is in this spirit of Dr. Lopez in recognition of a life well spent that we gather every year and give an award of recognition for humanitarian or innovative cardiovascular work.
